HOW, WHY,AND WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The story of Led Zeppelin began in the London session studios of the early 1960s, and a little later in the decade, in the West Midland’s local beat group scene, the same one that spawned Black Sabbath, The Move, Traffic and The Moody Blues.  It was in these locations that Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham learnt their craft before, as if by magic, coming together to form the ultimate rock band; the King of Kings in the empire of sound.

In The Origin of the Species - How, Why and Where It All Began, author Alan Clayson discovers just that and with the help of those who were closest to Zeppelin’s future members during their early careers, recounts accurately the circumstances that led to Led Zeppelin becoming a reality.

The book further discusses the musical influences of each member, as they were discovering them, and illustrates how these were infused collectively to create a sound so astonishing and unique that in every new generation huge numbers still find Led Zeppelin’s music somehow separate and above everything else that has ever happened, before or since.
