Dear
Alan, What a night! We were knocked out! Sarah and i were
thrilled throughout the entire set. Hope you were nearly as pleased
with your set as we were.
Sorry we didn't see you after the performance, we had to shoot
in order to be able to catch the trains (tube & mainline, though
not Cyril Davies' Special one.) Didn't know if you'd be back
into the club or, indeed, if YOU would be making a swift getaway as
well as us. I did try shouting for you to come back 'one' more time
but to no avail....and i know that it was down to the club's
regulations.
When we were in line outside in the queue a person from the club went
along the line asking for our emails and i said ,"No, we're only
here to see Alan Clayson thanks, prob'ly won't be back unless he's on
again."
And a great bigger thankyou for the free Argonauts' L.P. given away
with the C.d. i bought. The C.d. got my heart humming, but
carrying the L.P. home brought back the never to be
forgotten thrill of obtaining a new one, I thought those days were
long gone but obviously such deep rooted emotions. As a matter of
fact, we pounced upon the bloke who was selling the C.d.s before he'd
got them out of the sound room and were chuffed to have been one of
the first 23 first buyers. I got so excited that i mistakenly handed
over a fiver at first, thinking it was a tenner. An error,
really, that i corrected straight off. So, a great night
was had by all. We shall just have to see you the next time we see you
perform.
Really Alan, it was a great show and we were honoured to have been
present.
Til the next time, love from, Sarah
& Mick

Well
Alan, it was a complete experience ! great musicianship, very cohesive
and flowing and unlike so many more "progrock" shows it
wasn't aloof, it connected. This is due to your rapport with the
audience as much as anything. It looked as though it was fun to be
playing and THAT communicates more than anything.
ALSO (as self-appointed Master of the set list I consider myself to be )
I tip my hat for the selections and running order, whoever was
responsible.
That really made it a satisfying show. We bought two friends, telling
them little about the act and they just loved it and the whole
atmosphere.

Hi
Alan, It was great to see the set without getting paranoid
about the reaction of some A & R man or Press bod covering
the gig – or even trying to work out who he/she was so
we could buy him a drink! I could just relax and enjoy
some of the oldies and goldies as well as a few I hadn’t I
don’t think heard before.
Speak soon...Clive.

Alan,
I
didn't know quite what to expect (never having seen you in your
pomp) but I thought you & the band were excellent. Very
tight, you yourself were obviously in your element, and the
material came across strongly as a cross between Ian Dury & the
Blockheads, early Roxy Music, and one of those 70s
"medieval" folk bands like Gryphon. Nobody else is doing
anything like it, it still sounds good, and I reckon it'd be
a crying shame to leave it at just that one-off gig. I think you
& the chaps should get back on the road, mate!
All
the best - Graham L.

Great
gig! Dark suited, the group played all the complex numbers with gusto. At
51, the bassist was the youngest. Alan Clayson himself, with a shock of
white hair, has lost little of his brio and fine enunciation. I got the
CD: recommended, especially if you like Robert Calvert with
whom he shares a WWII nostalgia.
I'm feeling old myself now, having to take off my glasses to read the tiny
print in the extensive liner notes in the CD. He's written lots of rock
books too.

Clayson & Argonauts at the Metro
Amazingly loud sound - a
real rock gig. Again, one of the highlights of the year. One of best
gigs ever. All the Clayson-fans came out of the woodwork and venue rang
with chants of ‘Clayson! Clayson! Clayson!’ In audience: Steve
Garnett of ‘Snap Snap’ voiceover fame. And Steve Lake.
